How do I find out previous owners of a piece of land?
April 11th, 2009 Posted by: admin
I am doing a research project for my city’s historical society, looking for the ownership trail of the land one of the local schools sits on. I have the last couple of owners and one in 1929 but i would like to bridge the gap and find even earlier if possible. I already tried the county recorders office, and they cant give me more than I already have.

uh…
A title search backwards gives you the person the previous owner bought from. Searching HIM shows who HE took title from.
Searching THEM show where they got title
If the recorder can’t help (and odds are they won’t; doing title search is not their job) Hire a professional for a 100 year search.
They will find the info if it is to be found.
